Should You Join a Local Chamber of Commerce? After researching, analyzing, and filing all the documents and paperwork, and hanging the sign you’ve opened a business and offered services to your town. Along with the development and long term goals it’s time to figure out your stability & marketing plan. That’s where a chamber of commerce comes in!
What is a Chamber of Commerce? By definition, this is an organization that exists to help promote a business community. They’re a local business network and serve as a way to bring together and advocate for all the professionals in town, particularly in their members’ best interests. They can be a great way to get a bunch of business owners in one place, from Salons and fitness studios to lawyers and realtors.
Pros of Joining a Chamber of Commerce: There are a number of perks that include Publicity: Your business will have more exposure both online and offline. No one is going to know you exist if you don’t put yourself out there. Every time you’re mentioned by the Chamber, you may get yourself a new client, customer or connection. Plus, people who are moving into the area or who are looking for something cool to check out in the community will easily know about you. Networking Opportunities: You’ll be in direct contact with other professionals. You’re going to mix & mingle with other members of the professional community at various events. This can lead to opportunities you never imagined. At the very least, you can look forward to a good time and an increase in your contact lists. It’s just one of the many benefits of joining a chamber of commerce. Advocacy: Promoting a community’s economic interest. Community & Regional chambers focus on regional or local issues featuring cooperation with local government. They aim to promote a community’s economic interest locally and beyond through relationships with the Alberta Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Directory: You can directly market to people who may require your products or services. Chamber membership will include a directory with a list of everyone involved. This directory is available not just to members, but also non-members in the local community. It’s especially helpful if your business has a direct link to your website. Discounts: Value added benefits. The Chamber will offer a package of Value added benefits that may give you free access or discounts for a product or service you need. Support: The Chamber of Commerce is a built-in support system for small businesses.
